Help for Harvey Victims

In the last 3 days, I have had more than 50 requests to donate immediately for Hurricane Harvey Victims. I am sure you all have, too.

Please be careful who you send money to. They all claim to want to help. But… how much of the money actually gets to the cause? In many cases, only the Shadow knows (If you don’t need to google that phrase, you are probably older than you look!)

Especially persistent about getting money are many of the conservative news letters I get. Sorry, guys, I love your comments, but can’t vouch for your validity. Also, you know some real n0-nos like HSUS or PETA will be seeking to add to their retirement funds stashed over seas where the IRS and others cannot get to them.

There are some who give all. The Red Cross. The Salvation Army. If you are a Veteran, check with your local American Legion or VFW. I received notice yesterday that American Legion posts from around the country are sending several semi-trucks loaded with food, clothing and supplies, all due in Houston this weekend.

For helping our stranded, lost or abandoned pets, please check out SE Texas shelters and make donations directly to them.

It will be many years before we are completely recovered from the devastation caused by this storm and the flooding. Thank you for helping where possible to relieve some of the stress and anxiety that grips 100,000’s, no, millions, of our residents.

Common Sense

The University of Tampa fired Tuesday a professor who suggested that Hurricane Harvey was “instant Karma” for Texan Republicans. The university condemned Professor Kenneth L. Storey’s remark and said it did “not reflect UT’s community views or values” in the statement sent to the school’s community. “As Floridians, we are well aware of the destruction and suffering associated with tropical weather. Our thoughts and prayers are with all impacted by Hurricane Harvey.”

Who would have guessed that common sense and decency might happen on a University campus? When I first saw this, I thought, no way, a university would never ever reprimand a liberal, let alone summarily dismiss them. Seeing it confirmed in a legitimate newspaper, and then on Fox news, confirmed the facts.

Perhaps there is a glimmer of hope for future generations, but the jury is still out on that.

History vs Obnoxiousness

By Natalie Musumeci | New York Post

A group of students and parents in Alabama is calling for the removal of a rainbow pride flag from a high school classroom — arguing that it can be compared to displaying a Confederate flag.

“We strongly feel that it creates a hostile and provocative learning environment for students not comfortable to openly supporting the LGBTQ+ community in a public school where students come from diverse political and religious backgrounds,” a petition reads about the flag in Auburn.

I cannot imagine how the 2 flags could be compared. The Rebel flag has historic significance. The lgbtq+abcdefhi +g-whiz “flag” was put forth as an affront to society.

Only an “educator” could make a claim: “[name withheld to protect the stupid from derision] is aware of the situation and is working with staff and students to address the concerns. While we are aware of the online petition, there is not a controversy at our school,” the statement said.

Escaped

Good news! (or maybe not, depending on your point of view)

Ty O’Really, Fred Water and I have successfully escaped from the confines of my cluttered office. We took a wrong turn one night, somewhere between my desk and storage wall. Got trapped by old magazines, shipments of paper still waiting for shelf space and a stray bunch of ancient aliens looking for their undersea escape route.

We had some discussions with them, or at least Ty O’Really and Fred Water did. For some reason, they had no problem speaking ancient alien.   Seems they lost their passports and Homeland Security declared them Illegal Ancient Aliens.

Loosely translated, they blamed their problems on Donald Trump. Seems to be very popular right now. Blaming Donald Trump, that is.

I have been quiet because I firmly believe we have had all the hate and discontent we can handle right now. The MSM, Schumer, Pelosi, Fienstein and on the other side, centrist Republicans, McCain, Kasich, Red State have spread tons of hate and bull shit at both our President and Conservative America in general.

What can I say that does not come across as more hate and BS, getting lost in the big piles spread all over the place? Probably not much. But, then, on the other hand, Silence does Not Become Me. Patience is Not My Middle Name. One should Vent One’s Spleen before it explodes.

So, on a rainy day in Houston, compliments of Hurricane Harley, we will start a new series aimed at those on both sides who seek to destroy our Great Country, take away our Freedoms, and generally promote Big Government as the solution to all our ills.
